Beautiful World

Just a woman and her thoughts

Alaska Bound!

By the time this goes live, I will be getting on a boat headed to Alaska!

It’s my 2 year anniversary with the man who has made me completely and totally happy. To celebrate, we and a bunch of friends have decided to do a group birthday/anniversary party cruise.

All the chaos of getting the pet and plant sitters scheduled, house cleaned, suitcases packed and trying to anticipate our needs without over packing now seems worth it for the adventure we are about to face together.

There will be plenty of pictures to post once I get back along with my anticipated Birchbox and Beauty Army boxes to review and let’s not forget the dining room table and chairs project! But all in good time, my friends!

In the meantime, I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead!

ASK Cosmetics’ Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenge – Week Two

If you are just tuning in, you can read Week One of my Beach Ready Toe Nail Challenge here:

I have to say, I am really impressed with the results so far. My nails have never really looked this hydrated and pink in a really long time. The skin feels wonderful and I have not had to deal with any of my usual excessive white flakes.

I haven’t noticed anything regarding the ridges or splits but it has only been 2 weeks. Right now, just not having to deal with the constant onslaught of white flakey skin is a win for me. I really am excited to see what happens after 6 weeks. Please disregard the blemish on my big toe, I slipped in the garage and stubbed my toe.

May Birchbox Woes

The fiasco over the May charge has been resolved  and my account was indeed credited. I am slightly annoyed it took over a week to come to a conclusion since they have a SLA of 3 days.

Now we have another issue. The tracking information for my May box is showing up with the shipping information for my April box. I’ve shot off an email, asking what is going on but if it turns out I end up not getting 2 boxes, I’ll be dropping Birchbox. I don’t have the time or patience to babysit a service when there isn’t anything wrong on my end.

My level of cope when it comes to dealing with this has reached an all time low and when compared to Beauty Army’s quick resolution to their shipping orders, a 3 day SLA is sorely lacking.

ASK Cosmetics’ Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenge – Week One – Day 2

I know it’s only been a day but here I am, sitting outside my classroom, waiting to take my Algebra final when I look down and see my foot.

20120509-164330.jpg

Most of you are probably thinking “it’s a foot, so what?” but what you have to understand is I’ve never seen my toes look this pink and flake free without having just been to a salon! I have done nothing but put on my morning treatment (around 7 this morning) and in that time I’ve walked the dog (in the shoes shown), watered my garden and done house chores.

Usually by this time, my toes are quite the horrendous site and laugh at traditional lotions. If it only gets better from here, I’m going to just be beside myself.

ASK Cosmetics’ Beach-Ready Toe Nail Challenge – Week One

I received my challenge kit today so I couldn’t wait! I dove right in!

The instructions are pretty straightforward: apply after getting up in the morning but at least an hour before getting your feet wet or an hour afterwards. The main point is to make sure your feet are completely dry and will be dry for at least an hour. Apply the product generously to the cuticle, the nail plate and around the nail. And lastly, take pictures on a weekly basis as a way to track progress and report it to Lisa over at Ask Cosmetics. The best thing is you can also use the Tips for Toes also on your fingernails so I will be doing both!

My hands: My cuticles are always flaking and splitting. I’ve tried different lotions and cuticle oils but nothing seems to really work. Within minutes I am back to this wonderful scene.

So I put on Tips for Toes and an hour later, my cuticles are still looking pretty good for an initial application.

If I can keep getting results like this, I will be out of this world happy.

My Feet: My feet are horrible, I’m almost too embarrassed to show them but here we go!

I  have some pretty bad ridges on my big toes, I have no idea when this started but there they are and it makes painting my nails a real chore since it is so pronounced.

Another angle and slight close up of my ridgey toe.

Another issue I am dealing with is my toe nail splitting down the center on my middle toes. It doesn’t hurt so it doesn’t seem to be happening under the cuticle but as soon as the nail starts to grow, the split continues down to the cuticle. Again, this causes an issue with pedicures cause more often than not the crack shoes through and the polish begins to flake off.

Put on an application and let is absorb into my skin and all the white flaky stuff is still gone.

ASK Cosmetics also included a full size bottle of their skin conditioning milk and I *love* this stuff.  In fact, the one thing that rates high on my list is just how lightly scented both of these products are. The lotion has my skin feeling soft and smooth without also feeling tight.

Plants and Polymer Clay

Last month, I saw a really neat way to make plant markers.

I ordered some materials but I accidentally ordered the wrong size armature wire. I didn’t want it to go to waste so I modified the original plan to come up with my own twist on it.

I had ran out of potting soil so the thyme hasn’t been transplanted yet but now that I’ve gotten the plant marker done, I really need to get it transplanted so it doesn’t look quite so weird.

I really like how the plant markers came out though. I cannot wait to do more!

Many Adventures Ahead

I’ve never been on a cruise before though it has been on my To Do list for many years. Especially an Alaskan cruise so the f act that mine is mere days away is almost hard for me to believe. I cannot wait to get started on this adventure.

Since this is such a special occasion, I have decided to use this opportunity to challenge myself. I’ve lost quite a bit a weight and wearing something slinky and form fitting was something I never thought I would be able to do. But I have a Little Black Dress, one I have wanted to wear for some time and I think I am finally in a place where I can do it justice. I just finished picking out all the accessories for it.

The dress is from Torrid and was a gift from a girlfriend of mine. I love the draped rouched dresses, especially how they flow over a curvy body.

The necklace is from JCPenny. I don’t have a lot of jewelry but this is one of my fave pieces and one I go to alot when wearing red.

The wrap is from a friend who runs his own Indian restaurant and recently expanded to include a fairly nice market and a small line of clothing.

The shoes are from Cato and I picked them up last year during a clearance sale for *drumroll* $4. They remind me of Dorthy’s ruby slippers from Wizard of Oz since they have a sparkly aspect to them that fails to come through in this picture but they are quite lovely.

The cruise has 2 formal nights so this is for one of those evenings. I have a strapless silk chiffon in a dark purple slotted for the 2nd dinner.

Both are pieces that make me feel quite feminine and confidant. So cannot wait! :)

Alaskan Countdown!

My Alaskan cruise is on the horizon! After months and months of planning, it is almost here!

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to get this show on the road. No homework, no refinishing furniture, not keeping up with the house; just me, my friends and some good times. Yay!

Last night, the SO and I made the final decision on our excursions. I had really been wanting to do the glacier kayak tour but he was unsure he would be able to get into the boat with his knee issues (he can’t bend it very well for long periods of time) so we compromised on a Glacier float that also have some Class II & III water rapids! We have also elected to do a 15 mile bicycle tour that begins with being drive up to one of the summits and then  riding a bicycle down.

Have I mentioned I’m already packed? It was just the test phase to make sure I could fit everything into my little carry on but I’m not in a rush to unpack it! I have to say, having smaller clothes is finally paying off! In one small carry on, I can fit, 4 pairs of jeans, 4 shirts, 1 casual dress, 2 cocktail dresses, a sweater, a swimsuit, a swimsuit cover, 2 pairs of heels and a pair of flip flops!

Thank you Lap-Band, diet and working out! If nothing else, this has really made all my time, money, sweat and blood spent worth it!

April Birchbox – Gone!

I sent an email to Birchbox last week regarding the missing April box and they got back to me early this week stating that all the April boxes were gone. But as a way to “replace” it, they would credit me the May box.

I’m sad I didn’t get my April box, I was really looking forward to it but I was fine with the credit.

Except I logged into my CC account this morning and guess what? I was charged for May. So now I have fired off another email to Birchbox and hope they get this taken care of ASAP. I know its only a few dollars but I really hate to be told something and it not be followed through.

This is the first time I have had to deal with Birchbox so I am not sure what their Customer Service is like. I guess I will have an opinion once this issue is resolved!

Stay tuned for the climatic ending!
